Bob is an English-born New Zealander who has lived in Asia for the past 20 years. He has been in the field of human resources for the whole of his working life. He has been an independent management consultant since 1980.
Most recently, he has been functioning as an ideas broker, which means that he reads widely, mines new ideas from his reading, links them with ideas already mined and sharing them with managers and companies who are interested in keeping themselves at the cutting edge.
Bob's working life has alternated between three main areas of focus.
- As an educator, he has taught at all levels from junior school to MBA, in New Zealand, Thailand and Malaysia. Latterly, he has become involved in web-based learning, and is in the process of developing programs in management English and HRM, leading to university qualifications that can be gained in-house and relate to the learners' own organizations.
- As a task skills trainer, Bob has developed innovative learning programs in the oil sector, banking and insurance.
As a management educator, Bob has worked with many companies, in New Zealand and Asia, including the NZ Cooperative Dairy Company – now Fontana – NZ Breweries, Shell BP and Todd Oil Services and Petroleum Corporation of New Zealand. He was for a period a regular presenter for the courses offered by the NZ Institute of Management.
- In Malaysia. he has consulted to Kwong Yik Bank, American Express, Tractors Malaysia, and was for a period associated with the Malaysian Association of Productivity. In Indonesia, he was associated largely with companies in the oil and insurance sectors.
- Bob has been a speaker at almost 20 international conferences relating to human resources, including the prestigious International Federation of Training and Development Organizations, as well as the Asian Region Training and Development Organization.
- He has co-authored two books on HR topics and is I process of writing a third relating to performance management in organizations which is one of his major fields of activity at present. He also writes a management blog the learnermanager.com, which is aimed at managers in all disciplines who accept that they don't know it all yet, and need to keep up to date. Accepting the managers tend to be very busy, he suggests that they allow Business Today to do their reading for them.
- This workshop arises from his reading. The recent management literature has been introducing new focuses on the role of the accountant and the finance department in organizations, showing how they can become core proactive in supporting the sales function in particular, but also suggesting new ways of approaching budgeting. He will share these new writings with you in this seminar.
